Terrell County Release Records Explained
A release record answers when and why a person's custody at one facility ended. It is not the same as a full arrest history or a court disposition. For the Terrell County Jail, the Sheriff's Office or detention center is likely to retain the booking and release event. For a state offender housed at the Terrell County Correctional Institution, the Georgia Department of Corrections, or GDC, may retain status and discharge details. The court record remains a separate source that can explain the bond, order, sentence, dismissal, or probation event behind a release.
Released can mean a return to the community, but not always. Bond, time served, sentence completion, dismissal, and a probation sentence can end jail custody. A transfer to GDC, another county, federal authorities, or immigration custody also ends Terrell County custody while detention continues elsewhere. That distinction matters. A local release date proves only that the local facility stopped holding the person unless the release type also confirms community release.
Terrell County Inmate Release Types
The release reason directs the next search. A bond release leaves the criminal case open unless the court later disposes of it. A transfer means the person left one custodian and entered another system. State parole and probation add supervision records even after confinement ends. The jail release record should be read with the court or receiving-agency record before drawing a conclusion.
| Release type | What it means | Where to check next |
|---|---|---|
| Bond | Jail custody ends before final case disposition. | Jail release record and the court's bond or case docket |
| Time served or sentence complete | The custodial term or credited jail term ends. | Release record and sentencing disposition |
| Dismissal or court order | A judge or prosecutor's case action supports release. | Superior or Magistrate Court record, as applicable |
| Probation or parole | Confinement ends, but community supervision may follow. | Court docket, State Board search, and DCS |
| Transfer | Terrell custody ends while another agency may take custody. | GDC, another county, BOP, USMS, or ICE |
When the reason is unclear, ask for the receiving agency and the court or case number. Those two fields often resolve whether a person went home or remained confined elsewhere.
Fields in Terrell Release Records
A focused request is easier for records staff to process than a request for every file about a person. Supply the full name, date of birth if known, approximate booking date, and a case or charge number when available. Ask for the booking-and-release record and name the fields needed. Some information may be withheld or redacted because of juvenile, medical, investigative, sealed, restricted, institutional, or security rules.
| Field | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Name, aliases, booking number | Links the release event to the correct jail file. |
| Booking date and arresting agency | Shows when custody began and which agency made the arrest. |
| Charges, warrants, bond, case number | Connects jail custody to the legal matter and court record. |
| Release date and time | Shows when custody at that facility ended. |
| Release type or reason | Distinguishes bond, sentence end, court order, or transfer. |
| Receiving agency | Identifies another custodian when release was a transfer. |
| Photo or property notation | May show whether a releasable photo or property entry exists. |
A booking photograph, property note, or internal remark may not be public even when basic release fields are available. Ask the record custodian to cite the basis for any withheld part.
Request Terrell County Release Records
For a county-jail event, start with the Terrell County Sheriff's Office at 3108 Albany Highway, Dawson, GA 39842. Its official contact page lists (229) 995-4488, fax (229) 995-4301, and sheriff@terrellsheriff.org. GDC separately lists the Terrell County Jail at 3110 Albany Highway with (229) 995-4012. Ask which office holds the booking-and-release record before sending a request.
- Identify the person and give the approximate booking period.
- Ask for booking date, release date and time, release reason, charges, bond notation, and transfer destination.
- Cite the Georgia Open Records Act, O.C.G.A. § 50-18-70 et seq., if making a formal public-record request.
- Request electronic copies when practical and ask for a cost estimate before work that may incur fees.
- Compare the response with the court disposition or receiving agency record.
Record the date and method of the request. If staff redirects it, note the correct custodian so a follow-up reaches the jail, Sheriff's Office, court, or GDC unit that holds the requested file.
GDC requests use the official GDC Open Records Request portal. GDC states that it provides an initial response within three business days, charges $0.10 per page for non-medical copies, and may charge search or redaction time at the rate of the lowest-paid qualified employee. Those published details apply to GDC requests. A county request follows the same state statute but may use a different process or estimate.
The source page below shows the statewide GDC request channel.
Use that state portal for GDC records, not for a Terrell County Sheriff's Office jail file.
Terrell Bond Release and Case Status
A Terrell County bond-out is release before final disposition. No official local bond schedule was found in the research, so the amount or terms should come from the court or jail record for the individual case. The release entry confirms the person left the jail. It does not prove that a charge was dismissed, resolved, or cleared.
The confirmation pair is the jail release record plus the court docket. The Terrell County Superior Court Clerk criminal docket description includes pending and disposed criminal cases, pending warrants, dead-docket cases, protective orders tied to criminal charges, and probation revocations. Magistrate Court may hold first-appearance, warrant, or bond material for some matters. Check the court named on the case rather than assuming every release belongs in Superior Court.
Restricting Terrell Jail Release Records
Georgia often uses the terms record restriction and sealing rather than promising that every record is destroyed. Under O.C.G.A. § 35-3-37, certain criminal-history information may qualify for restriction through the prosecutor and related process. Arrests after July 1, 2013 generally route through the prosecutor without the older arresting-agency application, while older arrests may require an application through the arresting agency.
The statute contains a direct jail-record step. After criminal-history information has been restricted, the individual may send a written request to the proper county or municipal jail or detention center to restrict the records for that offense. The facility must restrict access within 30 days of the request. This does not mean every court, jail, or criminal-justice record vanishes. The GBI record-restriction guidance and the court or prosecutor are the right sources for the process that applies to a given case.
Terrell Release System Scale
A 2018 county inmate-health procurement document offers historical context, not a current population count. It described the detention center as a 54-bed jail, including eight female beds and one isolation bed, and asked bidders to assume an average daily population of 25. The same procurement material referenced a Terrell County Correctional Institution daily population of 147 for proposal purposes.
These figures describe the scale used for an old service proposal. They should not be read as 2026 custody totals or release counts. Current status for one person must come from the agency holding that person's record.
Find Terrell County Released Inmates
Start with the custody system, not a broad name search. A local arrest generally points to the Terrell County Jail and the court handling the charge. A state sentence or confinement at the Terrell County Correctional Institution points to GDC, the State Board of Pardons and Paroles, and DCS. A federal or immigration transfer requires a different locator.
- Ask the jail whether the person is still held or has a release or transfer entry.
- Request the county booking-and-release record because no official rolling Terrell release feed was found.
- Check the court docket for bond, disposition, sentence, warrant, or revocation details.
- Search GDC if state custody or a transfer to a state facility is possible.
- Use State Board and DCS sources for parole or felony probation.
- Use VINELink for a specific-person status check or alert, then verify at the source.
- Check BOP, USMS, or ICE only when the facts point to federal or immigration custody.
Do not stop at the first blank result. A changed spelling, transfer, restricted record, or move between county and state systems can explain why one source has no match.
GDC Terrell Release Record Search
The GDC Find an Offender search is the main statewide channel for a person sentenced to Georgia custody or housed as a state offender. Search an exact name first. Broaden the spelling if needed. An ID or case number can separate people with similar names. Review status, facility, sentence information, release date, maximum release date, and any parole link shown.
The official search entry appears below.
A released, discharged, or inactive result can support the search, but it is not a certified record. GDC directs users to written verification through Inmate Records and Information, PO Box 1529, Forsyth, GA 31029, before treating public data as complete.
| Search field | How it helps |
|---|---|
| Name or description | Starts a search when no identifier is known. |
| GDC ID or inmate number | Reduces the risk of a same-name match. |
| Case number | Connects the GDC result with a known case. |
| Status and facility | Shows whether state custody appears active. |
| Release date, MRD, or TPM | Separates an actual date, maximum date, and tentative parole month. |
A Tentative Parole Month is not a guaranteed release date. GDC's Performance Incentive Credit program may reduce an eligible person's TPM or Maximum Release Date through program, work, and conduct progress, while offense and sentence rules can bar or limit those credits.
No Terrell Recent Release Roster
The research found no official Terrell County name-level 24-hour or 72-hour public release feed. The Sheriff's website has a Quarterly Jail Report page, but that is not a rolling list of named people released today or during the last three days. Conflicting third-party roster claims should not be treated as county records.
For a recent county release, call (229) 995-4012 for the jail number listed by GDC or (229) 995-4488 for the Sheriff's administrative contact. Ask whether staff can confirm the status or explain the release-record request route. VINELink can provide a custody-change alert when its agency feed covers the person, but it is not a historical release archive. A GDC search applies only if state custody is involved.
A blank live roster result does not state why custody ended.
Terrell Court Records Confirm Releases
Terrell's court record is a primary confirmation path because the local criminal docket description covers more than final judgments. It includes pending and disposed cases, pending warrants, criminal-case protective orders, dead-docket matters, and probation revocations. Each category can change how a release should be understood.
A person may be out on bond while a case remains pending. A dead-docket entry may explain why no immediate trial event follows. A resolved revocation can explain a return to, or release from, custody. A warrant may remain even after a separate jail event. The jail record establishes what happened at the facility, while the court record supplies the legal event. Certified court documents may be requested from the clerk, and Georgia's eCertification service may support available document types.
Terrell Releases Under Community Supervision
Georgia divides parole decision-making and community supervision. The State Board of Pardons and Paroles supplies the inmate TPM and parolee searches. DCS supervises parolees and felony probationers in the community. A person can be out of prison yet remain subject to parole or probation conditions.
Terrell County is served by the DCS Donalsonville Field Office, not a field office named for Terrell or located in Dawson. The office at 223 S. Wiley Avenue, Donalsonville, GA 39845 serves Terrell along with Clay, Early, Miller, Pataula Circuit, Quitman, Randolph, and Seminole. Published hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; the phone is (229) 524-2836.
Use the State Board's parolee search for public parole status and the court docket for probation sentences or revocations. Office staff may limit personal supervision details. Broader distinctions and verification steps appear on the Probation & Parole page.
Terrell Release Alerts and Transfers
Georgia VINE offers a free and confidential specific-person custody check and notification channel. Search by name or offender ID, inspect the reporting agency and status, and register for an alert when that option is offered. A released VINE result should still be confirmed with the jail, GDC, or court if a formal record is needed. No result does not prove that the person was never held.
Federal cases use federal sources. The BOP inmate locator covers federal inmate records from 1982 forward. BOP says a past release date with no listed facility means the person was released from BOP custody on that date, though another form of custody or federal supervision may continue. USMS manages federal pretrial custody and can use local contract beds.
An ICE transfer requires the ICE Online Detainee Locator rather than a repeated county search. Release from Terrell County to ICE is a local handoff, not proof of community release. The receiving agency's record must confirm what happened next.
Where Terrell Release Records Appear
The same person can leave one system and appear in another. Choose the source that owns the custody stage being checked. This prevents a current jail list from being misread as a complete history.
| Source | Best use | Key limit |
|---|---|---|
| Terrell County Jail | Local booking, release reason, time, and transfer | A live list may drop the name after release |
| Terrell court docket | Bond, disposition, sentence, warrant, and revocation | Does not replace the jail's custody event |
| GDC Find an Offender | State custody, state release, status, and dates | Not the record of a simple county-jail bond release |
| State Board and DCS | Parole planning, parole status, and supervision route | TPM is tentative and private details may be limited |
| VINELink | Specific-person status and release alerts | Not a full historical archive |
| BOP or ICE | Federal prison or immigration custody | Use only when transfer or case facts point there |
Formal proof should come from the originating office. Public search screens are useful pointers, but records staff or certified court documents can resolve a disputed date or status.
Terrell Correctional Release Path
The Terrell County Correctional Institution is not just another name for the local jail. GDC describes it as a medium-security county correctional institution for adult male felons, with a capacity of 140 and five open dormitories. It opened in 1947 and was renovated in 2000. Its mission includes holding state and county offenders and providing labor that supports county government.
That role changes the release trail. A state offender leaving the institution may have a GDC release or discharge record, a parole decision, and DCS supervision. The facility offers education, substance-abuse education, religious activities, trade training, and work details, but program participation does not by itself prove a release date. Use GDC status and date fields, the State Board tools, and GDC open records for confirmation.
Terrell Release Pickup Address Check
Official sources use two nearby Albany Highway addresses for the Sheriff's and detention campus. The Sheriff's contact page and the county's 2018 inmate-health request use 3108 Albany Highway. GDC lists both the Terrell County Jail and the Terrell County Correctional Institution at 3110 Albany Highway. The difference should be treated as a source-specific campus address discrepancy, not silently resolved in favor of one source.
Call before visiting for records, property, or release pickup. Confirm which building, agency, and entrance handles the task. The Sheriff's Office number is (229) 995-4488, GDC's jail listing gives (229) 995-4012, and the correctional institution number is (229) 995-5381. This small check can prevent a trip to the wrong part of the Albany Highway campus.
Terrell County Release Facilities
Three local pathways appear in the facility map. Each has a different record owner and release route.
- Terrell County Jail / Terrell County Detention Center handles county custody; releases are checked through jail records and the court.
- Terrell County Correctional Institution houses state and county offenders; state-offender releases run through GDC, parole, and DCS.
- Dawson Police Department holding / arrest pathway is an arrest pathway, not a separately documented city jail roster; detained arrestees move into the county jail and court process.
No Terrell-specific BOP prison, ICE detention center, or USMS facility was identified. A federal or immigration handoff leaves the local facility map and must be followed through the receiving system.
